Ropley under 13’s versus Alton, Friday 10th July - Match Lost. Report by Charlie Cheyney

Ropley fielded first keeping their Batsman at bay, however Adam Stoller retired. James Airey kept wicket really well. Altons opening bowlers' attack was a bit quick for Ropley, but Myles Greenwood retired but later came back in, James McColl and Charlie Cheyney scored 10 runs each, the outcome being that Ropley just lost a close match.

Ropley under 13’s versus Andover B, Sunday 5th July - Match Won. Report by Joe Hollyhurst.

With only four games left Ropley U13s were determined to win them all, and so far so good as we past Andover B with an emphatic win. Myles Greenwood won the toss and chose to field first. Ropley played their very best and managed to limit Andover to only 82 for 9 of 20 overs.

This was a good score for Ropley but we had to keep our concentration and not let the game slip through our fingers like the week before. No worries though as a fantastic display with the bat by Miles Greenwood , Alby Glaister and Daniel Lentz saw off Andover in under 9 overs! A truly amazing performance by the Ropley U13s.

Ropley under 13’s versus Compton and Chandlers Ford, Sunday 28th June - Match Lost, report by Dave Forrest.

Putting Compton in on a seaming wicket the boys bowled and fielded well to restrict the opposition to 90 all out. Setting off in fine fashion to chase down this below par total Myles Greenwood and Dan Lentz put on 50 runs before the skipper retired on 30. This heralded a bizarre series of batting failures as the team folded to 70 all out including 5 ducks. A very disappointing day as the 13s miss out again on a chance to play the plate final. Funny game this cricket.

Ropley under 13’s versus Sparsholt in the Barfoot Plate competition, Sunday 21st June - Match Won, report by Dave Forrest.

Electing to bat first, Ropley posted a solid 123 for 6 off their 20 overs with skipper Myles Greenwood leading the way scoring 35 retired. Dan Lentz was Myles’s most prolific accomplice making 21 before flashing across the line to a straight one. Steady bowling and enthusiaistic fielding increased the pressure as Sparholt struggled to maintain the required run rate falling 17 runs short of their target. A massive improvement on last weeks effort giving Ropley a home tie in the next round of the plate competition. Pictured below, Myles Greenwood who retired with an unbeaten 35.

14th June – Ropley vs Hedge End Home, 1st round of the cup - Match Lost, report by Dave Forrest.

Electing to bat first, the well drilled Hedge End boys made the most of some sloppy fielding, running singles at every opportunity to put Ropley under great pressure. This pressure began to take its toll as the bowling went to pot. Wides followed no-balls, which in turn were followed by over throws, adding nearly 70 runs to the Hedge End total !

The opening pair of Alby and Myles were determined to get the team back on the rails and chase down the 157, however things didn’t get any better as Alby was bowled without scoring. An excellent slip catch accounted for Myles leaving James Forrest as the only batsman to really get on top of the bowling scoring 25 before being caught brilliantly at backward point. James Airey and Josh Martin enjoyed time in the middle which will stand them in good stead as the season progresses, however by now the game was well and truly over as Ropley were to be bowled out for 83. Fittingly the Hedge End super catcher finished the innings with a one handed take at slip.

Having lost to an enthusiastic but by no means highly skilled team, the boys will be looking to improve in every aspect. The frustration of underachievement was palpable for parents and players alike so its ‘back to basics’ on Thursday as we look forward to returning to winning ways and happy cricket.
