Ropley V Castaways

Aggressive batting by youngsters Toby Williams & Henry Hughes propelled Ropley to a comfortable 10 wicket

win over Castaways. Castaways struggled throughout & only posted 79-6 in their full 18 over allocation, with

Sam Graham 2-20 & Chris Fuller 4-5 taking the bowling plaudits. In reply the openers were never really tested

as Williams hit 7 fours in his 39 & Hughes finished the game with a maximum to go alongside 5 boundaries in

an unbeaten 38 as the total was passed in just 55 balls.

Ropley V Bishops Waltham

Ropley lost a high scoring league encounter against Bishops Waltham, falling 23 runs short in their quest to

overhaul a huge target.

Waltham racked up a massive 180-6 in their innings, the wicket takers were Tom Stroud 2-35, James Forrest 2-51

& Martin Peters 2-26. Openers Wymbs 32 & Dalton 47 were the main run getters for the hosts.

In reply Ropley put up a valiant fight, thanks largely to Stuart Currall who carried his bat for an unbeaten 82. He was

well supported by Ollie Williams 32 in a stand of 85 & James Coleman chipped in with a useful 15 at the end, but

the chase was just beyond them.

Ropley V Sparsholt

Ropley put the opposition into bat and from the start they set about the opening bowlers. Scoring consistently

through there innings. L Spevock bowling for the first time this year ended with 5 overs for 35 runs and J Sutton

posting his 2 overs for 25 runs and also getting the opening batsman caught by Captain of the day O Williams in

the field for a change.T Stroud bowled very tightly and ended up with 5 overs 2 wickets for 10 runs. J Forrest

bowled 3 overs and just missed out on a hatrick and finished with 3 overs 3 wickets for 14 runs. S Graham

bowled 3 overs with a variation of spin and the odd faster delivery getting 1 wicket for 19 runs.

With Ropley chasing a receptacle 134, they lost both openers (T Williams & M Evans) for only 4 runs each very

early on. With O Williams setting about the bowling with S Currall (1) and then J Sutton (4) with both departing in

quick succession made slow inroads into the oppositions total. With Ropley now at 42-4 after 10 overs M Lentz

joined Williams at the crease. After a quick fire 50 from M Lentz both O Williams and M Lentz had a partnership of

79 in 8 overs before Lentz was caught with a top edge to midwicket. P Finch (0) and T Stroud (0) both were

bowled soon after, which left J Forrest and S Graham to get 10 runs off 12 balls. Both batmen’s tried to get the

runs quickly but with tight bowling made the job in hand quite tough. With quick singles and the odd two,

S Graham was left with 2 runs needed off the last ball to win the game! The bowling was tight and the field spread

they managed a quick single off the last ball ending the game in a tie.

Ropley enjoyed a comfortable 8 wicket win over Wessex to maintain their 100% start. Wessex posted 104-6

from their 16 overs, John Happel 2-15 & spinners Sam Graham 2-12 & James Forrest 1-23 were the wicket

takers.
In reply, Ollie Williams & Nick Gerrard (38) put on 85 for the first wicket to be on the verge of victory. 2 quick

wickets were then lost but Williams carried his bat for an unbeaten 44 to see his side home with 2 overs to

spare.

Contributions of 20 from Sam Barnett, a quick fire 21 by Toby Williams & an unbeaten 39 from Peter Finch saw
